When a data field is added to the Selected Data Fields grid, the Column Caption field is automatically populated. This field can be renamed by overtyping the value and saving the changes.
Prior to making the changes, it is important to assess the impact the change could have. If the user report is a not a backing report and contains no Custom Calc fields, changing any of the data fields column captions can be done quickly and safely.
If there are Custom Calc fields within a user report, check that the field that is being renamed is not referenced in any of the Custom Calc field formula. If the field in question is referenced, all instances of it must be updated within the user report for the report to run without errors.
Any Email Templates, Merge Documents and Quick Workflows (Portal Notification, Banner Alert, Email configuration and Mobile Push Notification) using Merge Codes will have a backing user report. Merge codes must be updated to use the revised column caption for the code to continue to work.
Things to Note
You should avoid using the same column captions for multiple fields. This will cause issues when running a User Report as a CSV.
