How to Configure Expat4Cast Host Tax Line Items

This article explains how to configure Host Net Pay calculations by setting up Expat4Cast Host tax line items, including tax position sets, gross-to-net tax estimators, and input mapping

To configure Host Net Pay calculations using the Expat4Cast Host line items, you will need to perform the following:

Set Tax Position Set for Host Calculations

You can start by editing an existing Cost Estimate Template or creating a new one.

From the Calculation Details & Defaults section, define the E4C Host Calc – Tax Position Set field. Note, this could be configured after the Expat4Cast Host line items are added.

This field sets the Tax Position Set that should be applied to the line item based Expat4Cast Host Calculations only. This Position Set will not apply to the main template Tax Calculations.

It is required when any E4C Host line item is configured.

Configure Defaults

  • E4C Host Calc – Calculate Social Taxes - This could be set to Yes, No, or Automatic.

  • E4C Host Calc – Qualifies for Short Term Exemption - This could be set to either Yes or No.

Enable Host Gross To Net Tax Estimators

In the Line Items section, add one or more of the following Expat4Cast Host tax calculation types:

  • Federal

  • Federal + Social

  • Federal + State

  • Federal + State + Social

  • State

  • State + Social

  • Social

These line items support host gross-to-net calculations and will trigger additional configuration options.

After adding an Expat4Cast Host tax calculation type, a new Host Gross To Net – Country section will become available in both the Tax Position Overrides page and the Tax Calc Input tab of the cost estimate.

Map Line Items

In the Calculation Input Mapping section, define how input values are passed to the tax engine.

  • Use Input Category like Base Compensation or Allowances.

  • Set the Input Value To based on your calculation logic.

Note - if Input Category = Base Compensation for an Expat4Cast Host line, the Annualize for Tax Input option will be disabled.

After the template has been set up with Expat4Cast Host tax calculation types, the Cost Estimate can now be used to generate Host Net Pay values. When a user creates a new Cost Estimate using the configured template, the Host Gross To Net tax estimators will be automatically added to the Tax Calc Input tab. These fields default from the template and the Expat4Cast Host Tax Position Set.

If necessary, the default values can be overridden using the Tax Position Override screen at the assignment level. However, note that while tax position values can be changed, the Host Gross To Net estimators themselves remain read-only to ensure alignment with the configured logic.

Reporting and Migration

You can use the following user report views to confirm and analyze your Expat4Cast Host configuration:

  • Cost Estimate Template (View) – to report on tax position sets and calculation defaults

  • Cost Estimate Line Item Input Data Source (View) – to report on input mappings for line items

Note, Migration packages support the export and import of the following components:

  • Expat4Cast Host line items

  • Tax Position Set

  • Calculation Input Mapping fields
