Company segments can be used to define divisions or sections of a company. Segment level information appears at the top of the Mobility Details screen and is mostly used to place mobility records in certain regions/departments/cost centers/office locations/divisions, etc.
Depending on the Mobility Type, up to four levels can be selected on the Company Segment Levels screen. These levels can be defined as either text boxes (free text option) or as a lookup based on a predefined list of values.
In addition, if one or more segments are ticked under the Segment Access Security section on the Company Segment Levels screen, to view the assignment record the user must have access to the segment level and the to/from country as per the configuration on the User Maintenance Screen (Company Segment Security & Country Security tabs).
Company segments can be used for the following reasons:
Reporting
Segment Levels can be used to categorize assignment records e.g. Region, Office Location, Cost Center or Group. These 'categories' in turn can then be used to effectively report on the assignment files for instance you can report on how many employees are currently working in the United Kingdom office's engineering department.
Widgets (Visual reporting)
For widgets, segment levels can be used to show how many people are moving between regions or divisions or expand even more to look at the ratio of men and women moving to the region or division.
Security/Access
A user’s access to the company can be restricted by the defined company segments or levels. Users can only view assignments that are moving from or to the segments to which they have rights. This security is defined at the user level on the User Maintenance screen on the Company Segment Security tab by configuring whether to grant or deny access to each of the segment levels.
Things to Note
To and From Segment level availability depends on the Mobility Type of the record
